National emergency medical care service ER24 has launched a new service called IDMe that connects you to fast medical help via your cellphones in the event of an emergency. The service is powered by technology from South Africa’s leading provider of GSM location based services, Cellfind, a subsidiary of Blue Label Telecoms.
In light of the City of Johannesburg Mayors budget speech on May 23, 2012 in which tackling crime and corruption was mentioned at length, it is of great concern that the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Departments anti-corruption hotline continues to go unanswered after hours.
The City of Johannesburg has explained that the paid parking scheme being rolled out to some areas of the city is a primary municipal management strategy aimed at ensuring proper traffic flow and the reduction of illegal parking and other parking problems. The system is already running in Braamfontein and the Johannesburg CBD as well as Parkhurst. The municipality plans to roll out the system to Norwood, Melville, Brixton, Emmarentia, Rosebank, Roodepoort, Birnam, Parkview, Sandton, Florida, Fordsburg, Greenside, Linden, Rivonia, Craighall Park and Northcliff on 1 June, 2012.
Over the last few weeks several serious incidents involving trucks have happened on Gauteng roads. And this seems to be the weekly norm!
Dave Johnston, a consultant for the Matrix Road Safety Foundation, says these accidents could have been prevented had the drivers adhered to the basic road rules. “There is a major problem with truck drivers not adhering to road rules and driving vehicles that are not road worthy,” he says.
