Horror weekend in Berario

Berario suffered two awful incidents of suspected suicide this weekend.
The peace of early Saturday morning was shattered by a horrific attempted suicide in San Juan Avenue, Berario.
Builders living in a house undergoing renovations rushed to the aid of their colleague who had entered the park, poured flammable liquid over himself and set himself alight. Pouring water over him to extinguish the flames, they covered the very badly burnt victim with a blanket until an ambulance arrived.
Despite the obvious noise and commotion, one neighbour came out to help.

In another incident, the body of a man was found hanging from a tree in Boulder Avenue. It is unclear whether this was a case of murder or suicide and we will follow up with details once we have comment from the police.

Story update

After speaking to Supt. Moichela of Fairland Police, we have ascertained that the man found hanging from a tree in Boulder Avenue was a Zimbabwean national. A note was discovered on the cell phone found at the scene. The phone has been sent to the SAPS technical support center for analysis but SAPS are treating it as a suicide at this stage.

In other developments, it has emerged that the yound man who doused himself in petrol passed away at Helen Joseph Hospital.
