Dachshund Show and Fun Day
Dachshund lovers are invited to enter their adorable Dachsie's into the annual Dachshund Show & Fun Day. This event will take place at The Brightwater Commons on Saturday August 14, starting at 10.30am. The show is open to Dachsie's of all shapes and sizes and one can enter on the day for a nominal fee of R20.
The event will be presented by the Miniature Dachshund Club of the Rand. There will be four categories into which Dachsie's can be entered. The first is for Dachsie Stars – dogs that can do tricks; the second is the Dachsie Dash for the fastest dog on the day; the third is for Golden Oldies – the best looking Dachsie over the age of 7; and the last is the Dachsie Fancy Dress for the best dressed dog. A first, second and third prize will be awarded in each heat. Each entry will also receive a goodie bag sponsored by Q & A Reptiles in The Brightwater Commons.
The public can also enter the Me & My Dachsie photo competition with a book prize to be won. One can enter by mailing photos of themselves and their Dachsie's to dachsiephoto@mweb.co.za. Photos must be less than 2Mb in size. Included in the e-mail must be one's name, the name of one's dog, and one's contact details.
Entries close on Tuesday 10th August. The twelve best photos will be included in a 2011 calendar to be sold by the Miniature Dachshund Club of the Rand to raise funds for the Dachsie rescue scheme. Photos entered will be displayed at the show on Saturday 14th August.
The event will also feature a Breed Show where the public will have a chance to see show quality Dachshund of the smooth, long hair and wire hair varieties; speak to Dachsie experts and get advice on Dachshund health, grooming and other related issues. This section of the event will be sponsored by Royal Canin, who will have experts available on the day to advise the public on Dachsie nutrition.
A highlight on the day will be dog dancing demonstrations. These will take place between each competition heat. There'll also be a variety of stalls selling various dog and dog related paraphernalia.
