Construction of new parkade underway
The construction of Cresta Shopping Centre's new multi-level parkade is well underway. Owners of the centre Pareto Limited have appointed as contractors G. Liviero and Son Building (Pty) Ltd., with Afritects as the project architects.
To date, the site has been secured by the contractor and his team. Hoarding has been erected around the construction area. The temporary access to the basement parking on the eastern side of the centre has been completed and is fully operational.
A 2nd road access on the south-eastern side of the site is also complete. 131 Of the 136 auger piles have been built, together with 60% of the pile caps; and 65 (representing 55%) of the parkade's reinforced concrete columns on ground floor have been completed.
A number of unknown existing services were detected within the footprint of the Parkade, providing a challenge for the contractor to avoid disruptions to these services, especially storm-water and main water supplies.
The establishment of the site was planned to minimise disruptions to the existing available parking space in front of the mall's entrances 4 and 12. A temporary semi-external eating area has been added to the centre's Panarotti's restaurant, so as to compensate for the area currently occupied by the construction hoarding.
Once completed, the 3 level parkade will provide an additional 511 parking bays for shoppers. The roof of the parkade will form a fourth level for parking.
The parkade should be completed in the last quarter of the year.
